Alexandrov to Brazil?
The big news today is that Russian coach Alexander Alexandrov is in a meeting with the Brazilian Gymnastics Federation, prompting the question: will he be the new Brazilian head coach?
The rumour about town is that it may be announced at some point today. Alexandrov has been in Brazil all week, observing training.
Alexandrov, who lost his position as the head coach in Russia recently, told Russian media that he would not leave his charge, Aliya Mustafina. Things, however, seem to have changed.

It would be amazing for the Brazilian program, but really sad for Mustafina…

Nice to know Brazil are serious about 2016, as they currently aren’t on the radar. Was worried about them but I think this would be a good move for both, Sad for Mustafina I did ship them but perhaps they have learned as much as they can from each other for now. It can be a new chapter for both of them.

Maybe Mustafina could go with him. I don’t believe there is any rule that says she has to train in Russia. I certainly don’t blame him for leaving. I think Russia has really shot itself in the foot getting rid of him as head coach.

Mustafina is studying at an oil & gas institute. This is a huge career opportunity as this is big big business in Russia.
Pretty soon this will be her focus I would think.
