The all around final of the 2018 Commonwealth Games took place of Saturday, the 7th of April.
Ellie Black dominated the meet from the beginning starting on vault with a strong clean front handspring front full for a 14.4. She then hit clean bars routine, with amazing releases and great rhythm (13.5). On beam the pressure caught up with her and she fell on the punch tuck front front but the high difficulty helped her not fall too far behind because of this mistake (12.85). Black finished with a clean floor routine for a 13.45 and an all around total of 54.2.
Georgia Godwin redeemed herself for a less successful preliminary round with a clean competition: Tsuk full for 13.8 on vault, amazing dynamic bars for a 13.75, a clean beam routine (she had incurred a fall the previous day, so this must have come as great relief) for a 13.15, while on floor she hit all her passes to finish with a 13.1 and a total of 53.8.
Alice Kinsella finished 3rd for England: a better Yurchenko double full compared to prelims, for a 14.05. A crisp bars set for a 13.4. She was extremely nervous on beam almost falling off on the double pirouette, but hitting her nice series of side aerial to layout stepout. On the final rotation on floor she was a bit nervous and slow but fought bravely for every landing and was rewarded with a 12.55. Her total was 53.15.
4th and only 15 tenths behind was Georgia-Rose Brown. She vaulted a clean full twisting Yurchenko for a 13.6. She delivered a clean bars routine (safe a transition from low to high where she loses a bit of momentum) for a 13.7. Brown had a clean beam set but of lower difficulty (in the mid 4s) for a score of 12.75. She finished with a beautiful floor set: beautiful dance, tumbling relatively modest in difficulty but with a better landing of the double back tuck compared to qualifications for 12.95.
Kelly Simm finished 5th with a total of 52.6. Simm had a great start with a Lopez on vault (14.1) and a very clean and dynamic bars routine (13.65). She succumbed under pressure on beam and fell on the layout to two feet (11.95).
The two Welsh gymnasts Latalia Bevan and Maisie Methuen finished 6th and 7th respectively with the same overall score of 52.55. Both had a clean competition with moments of brilliance: Maisie on beam (stepout mount, flick loso loso very well controlled- 13.3) while Bevan is always a treat to watch on floor with her classic ballet inspired choreography 13.3.
Isabela Onyshko finished 8th with a total of 51.9. She is coming back from injury and doing full difficulty on all events but was unable to keep up her execution score two days in a row (she also fell on beam in the AA finals).
