In the all around race, Gabby Douglas captured 1st place from the first rotation of the meet and never let it go. She did not set a foot wrong the entire afternoon and this paid off (59.650 total).

She was followed on the podium by Ragan Smith (59.05). We can already say that Smith had her breakthrough meet in Jesolo, showing impressive form on bars, an amazingly executed and bravely composed beam set (that standing full is something that stays with you), while her new floor routine highlighted all her strengths (from strong tumbling to cute appearance to nice form).

It was a bittersweet meet for Laurie Hernandez – she medaled in the all around  (bronze with 58.550) and “won” beam (with the huge 15.300) but she had a mishap on the bars transition that cost her important points.

Flavia Saraiva is growing from meet to meet – after proving she is a real beam threat earlier this year in the World Cup at Baku when she won the event title, she is now showing that she is developing into a strong all arounder. Granted the 58.4 total should be taken with a grain of salt (especially that bars score), however, she is a tremendous asset for Brazil going into the test Event and, dare I say, the Olympics.

Another important all around performance came from Carlota Ferlito – with a total of 56.300 and consistent performances on all four events she continues to show a lot of maturity and the fact that serious training pays off. I was also impressed with how happy she looked competing.

In the category of not so great outcomes I would include both MyKayla Skinner and Aly Raisman. Skinner had smaller or bigger mistakes thoughout her routines and finished 5th with 57.900. Aly Raisman took a big hit when she fell on her Amanar and despite good solid routines on all three subsequent events, she couldn’t get back in the race for a medal (57.850, 6th).
